Where does CUI show up in aviation work?
CUI shows up when a prime sends you technical data, engineering drawings, maintenance procedures, repair specifications, or performance data under a defense contract.
The markings, contract language, and direction from the information owner determine whether it is controlled. The requirement is conditional on the contract and the information actually handled.
How can scope and cost be managed?
Scope drives cost. Limit where CUI travels, and you limit what has to be assessed.

CMMC applicability depends on contract terms, the information handled, and the rules in force at the time of award. An aviation organization may be in scope when a defense contract or flow-down requires it and the organization handles FCI or CUI.
How is compliance different for a repair station or MRO?
Repair stations and MRO operations combine shop floors, shared workstations, technical data, inspectors, technicians, vendors, and commercial workflows. The compliance boundary must reflect how work is actually performed.
Can our compliance scope be limited to reduce cost?
Scope can often be limited through segmentation, enclaves, and workflow changes, but the result is subject to discovery and validation and cannot exclude systems or people that handle CUI.
